It is an unbelievable gift that I get to do the work I do every day. My passion comes from the pain of witnessing my own brother struggle with substance abuse and alcoholism. Seeing him admitted into five rehabs in five years, unsuccessfully trying to get sober, and ultimately committing suicide was devastating. He, like me, endured trauma as a child from our home environment that was unshakable. These facilities, both then and now, are simply not equipped to address pain and trauma when offering only talk therapy and medications, such as SSRIs, which have now been shown to be less effective than once thought.
Since the late 2000s, I have dedicated myself to finding the most effective and profound ways to heal the mind, body, and emotions. This led me to my own journey into breathwork. To be honest, it was not only difficult for me but a bit intimidating at times. It takes a great master to put you at ease with the process. I was told to trust in the breath, trust in the process, and most importantly, begin to trust in myself. Now I share that same sentiment. It became my superpower—something that had always been right under my nose. Breath is life! It is the override switch to your emotional response, a form of self-regulation that leads to self-awareness and, ultimately, self-love. It is the connective tissue to all of the lessons here at The Healing Sanctuary.
At the beginning of the 2020 pandemic, my wife, Angela Damato Grace, and I chose to use that time to create an exceptional program to combat addiction and PTSD-related issues. Why do people relapse at such a high rate? Why are anxiety and depression skyrocketing? We believed that by bringing back the 10 foundational principles of health, we could restore, revive, and recalibrate the body—without medication—by using a holistic, science-backed approach. This concept is infused with ancient Chinese wisdom and herbology as well as regenerative therapies such as NAD + and peptides to create a well-rounded program. It is the ultimate Yin/Yang approach, designed for whole health, addressing the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of the individual.
Over the years, I have crafted detailed programs that speak directly to entrepreneurs and C-suite executives looking to improve stress management. I’ve developed intensives for professional athletes, helping them stay on top of their game by thinking outside the box. Our Conscious Coupling retreats beautifully restore love and connection in relationships. My specialty has been working with young men (18 to 35), offering programs with ironclad routines that inspire massive long-term shifts in mind, body, and soul.
Something close to my heart for about a decade has been our Veteran community. I designed a compassionate program for veterans that addresses PTSD-related issues. Qi United, our 501(c)(3) nonprofit, was created so we could truly give back in the most powerful way—offering holistic healing through breathwork, meditation, and fitness. Spartan obstacle races are a big part of getting people off the couch, overcoming mental obstacles, and getting onto the field. These races provide camaraderie, connection, and support while getting fit and having fun.
I am so proud of the guests we’ve worked with here at The Healing Sanctuary. With our continued support and aftercare, they have absolutely defied and crushed the status quo, achieving sustainable long-term sobriety. We look forward to the next chapters of growth, making this the new standard of care for individuals in crisis. We have become the authority and leaders in holistic sober care.
